SXSW is right around the corner (March 10-March 18) and is sure to be as star studded and unpredictable as always. But this year there’s a few bonus surprises thanks to a certain world premier film about love and music set in the one and only live music capital! So from Aliens and Atomic Blondes to Directorial Debuts and Series Premieres, here’s a confirmed list of which celebrities will be attending SXSW film festival this year:
This rock and roll romance follows two couples through the turbulent terrain of Austin’s iconic music scene. The long-awaited film “Song to Song” (directed by Terrance Malick) and filmed right here in Austin stars Rooney Mara, Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbender, all of which are attending the festival!
Alien – World Premiere
The classic sci-fi horror anthology “Alien” is getting a reboot by its original director: Ridley Scott! The highly anticipated “Alien: Covenant” is packed with plenty of chills and thrills in true Ridley Scott style. Not only will Ridley be there to promote his new creature feature, he’ll also be joined by stars of the movie Michael Fassbender and Danny McBride!
Atomic Blonde – World Premiere
This gritty spy flick directed by David Leitch follows a super spy (Charlize Theron) on the hunt for double agents being smuggled west. The film “Atomic Blonde” is based on Antony Johnston‘s graphic novel, “The Coldest City” and is making its world premiere right here in Austin. In town to promote the film will be the beautiful Charlize Theron along with her costar James McAvoy.
The Disaster Artist – World Premiere
In his early directorial endeavor, James Franco explores the early friendship of Greg Stestero and Tommy Wiseau, creator of the hit cult film “The Room“, in a biographical comedy entitled “The Disaster Artist“. The film is based off Stesero’s novel of the same name, and stars James Franco, Seth Rogen, Dave Franco and Alison Brie, all of whom will be attending the SXSW Film festival!
Life – World Premiere
This terrifying sci fi thriller, directed by Daniel Espinoza, follows a six member crew of the International Space Station on the verge of proving the existence of intelligent life on Mars. But they quickly discover just how intelligent – and threatening – these beings are…The anticipated “Life” hits theaters late March but Hollywood hunks Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds will be in Austin to promote the film’s world premiere at SXSW.
Nobodies – World Premiere
Television’s queen of comedy Melissa McCarthy executive produces and stars in this new comedy series along with her husband and co-producer Ben Falcone. TV Land’s “Nobodies” documents the hilarious ups and downs of former comedy sketch artists The Groundlings as they toil on the road to fame. Both Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone will be promoting the series premiere at SXSW this year.
This is Your Death – World Premiere
Director Giancarlo Esposito directs this terrifying and intense dramatic satire about a dystopian world in which contestants are forced to kill themselves on a live hit game show for the entertainment of viewers…Yikes!! The drama/thriller “This is Your Death” stars Josh Duhamel and Famke Jansson, and Josh Duhamel will be at SXSW to promote the film – wonder if he’ll bring Fergie…
The Hero – World Premiere
The new comedy/drama “The Hero“, directed by Brett Haley, follows an aging actor (Sam Elliot) with pancreatic cancer as he tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter (Krysten Ritter). Also starring in the film are Laura Prepon (That 70’s Show) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation). Director Brett Haley will be joined by supporting actor Nick Offerman at the SXSW premiere here in Austin.
