The 2017 SXSW Film Festival has brought oodles of talent to Austin, including eminent film makers, talented new musicians, next-generation innovators, and even a few familiar surprise guests! But one of the highlights of the film festival was the SXSW shorts series, which featured horror shorts, first-time director shorts and highly-anticipated animated shorts like Pixar’s new Lou, which will premiere before Cars 3.
Producer of Lou Dana Murray and Director Dave Mullins are both long-time members of the Pixar family and are among the talented animation and visual effects minds behind all the Pixar greats, including Toy Story, The Incredibles, Up, Inside Out, Cars and Monsters Inc. Both Mullins and Murray are simultaneously humble and enthusiastic about their incredible work, and the passion they have for animation and story-telling can be seen and felt in every aspect of their new short film.
When asked about the core message behind Lou, Dave responded that the short is about “meeting people halfway, and being patient enough to see things from someone else’s perspective”…An insightful and poignant message that they manage to convey in just a few short minutes. And I was lucky enough to snag a short interview with director Dave Mullins and Producer Dana Murray at SXSW where they talk about working in the Pixar family and their upcoming animated Pixar short, Lou, premiering in theaters June, 2017.
